Liverpool agree £25million transfer fee for Fabio Coentrao - REPORT : Liverpool have, in the past, made an enquiry about the 23-year-old, with Reds director of football Damien Comolli having met with representatives from the 'Gestifute agency' who represent him. Our first approach was in December 2010 and that was followed up in February with Comolli jetting out to Portugal to meet super agent Jorge Mendes.

At the time we wrote: "...in December the Reds made an enquiry regarding the availablity of the 22-year-old Coentrao. He is definitely on our radar but he'd cost well in excess of £20million. Newcastle's Jose Enrique is also under consideration at Anfield but Coentrao - who has been heavily linked with Real Madrid - is very high up on our agenda.' However, with Liverpool unable to offer Champions League football, and because of stiff competition from Real Madrid, a deal looked unlikely.

Today, 'Correio da Manha' claim Liverpool have agreed a £25million transfer fee with Benfica although 2 days ago they said he'd signed for Real Madrid. 'Correio da Manha' also claim today that David De Gea could be Anfield bound to replace Pepe Reina, the day after Manchester United confirmed the signing of the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.

KOPTALK sources have maintained since November 2010 that Newcastle's Jose Enrique is the most likely signing and that a deal is just waiting to be rubber-stamped. Read More
