Rage - Mind Control

We're only months away from the launch of Rage, id Software's new shooter. Rage has been wowing for a while now with its incredible visuals, and the recent reveal of its vehicle-based multiplayer was certainly a bit of a surprise. Though it's still very much a first-person shooter, you will have more options for customization in Rage than you might be used to in id games.

All around the world you can pick up components and loot bodies for materials to craft into turrets and spidery sentry bots to help you out in a fight. You'll also pick up alternate ammunition types for the various weapons you'll find like the shotgun and assortment of assault rifles. Another weapon is a crossbow, and one of its alternate ammo types has some interesting effects.

By hitting an enemy with one of these special shots, you'll briefly be given control of the victim. They'll shudder and stagger for a few moments, then shuffle around like zombies wherever you direct them. You only have a small window of time to get them to where you want them to be, and at that point can order them to explode. They'll promptly detonate in a shower of red bits, damaging and potentially taking out anything in the vicinity. It's a handy way to cause havoc amongst your enemies if there's a number of them hiding behind cover.

Though there wasn't any content dramatically new at E3 2011 for Rage, some hands-on time reconfirmed what we already knew: great controls, amazing visuals, and a lot of potential for this to be yet another great title from id Software.
